Belly dancing is an ancient art form that originated in the Middle East and has spread all over the world. It is a beautiful and graceful dance that involves moving your hips, torso, arms, and hands in various patterns and rhythms. Belly dancing can improve your posture, flexibility, coordination, and confidence. It can also reduce stress, boost your mood, and make you feel more feminine and powerful.
This Fall, I am offering 3 different 4-weeks series. Pick series and choose your own dance adventure! If you miss a class you can make up for it in any other class (subject to space availability):
– First Steps in Bellydance (Tuesdays from 7:15 to 8:30 pm):
This class is a fun and energetic experience where you’ll learn the basics of belly dance. In this 4 week series we will cover a lot:
- History and culture of belly dance: learn about the origins, styles, and influences of belly dance.
- Technique and vocabulary of belly dance: learn how to do isolations, shimmies, undulations, hip drops, circles, figure eights, and more.
- Dancing with a veil (yes! we will start using a veil!)
- Choreography and improvisation of belly dance: learn how to follow a set sequence of steps or create your own moves on the spot.
– DanceCraft Style (Sundays from 11:00 am to 12:15 pm)
Learn Zoe Jackes’ signature moves and combos! This is a beginner friendly class. We start with DanceCraft warm-up and dance conditioning and will continue with technique and beginning layering. (Yaaasss!)
– Drill-It-All Thursdays (Thursdays 7:00 pm to 8:15 pm)
Let’s just dance together and drill everything we learned in other classes OR just drill what you already know but never had a chance to spend a little bit more time on the move. Sharp and/or fluid isolations, challenging combos, and beautiful music. Can you say NO to this??!
We meet in the Scenic Acres Community in Calgary NW. There are two sessions this Fall:
- September 15th to October 15th
- October 15th to November 20th
